goTenna Mesh uses goTenna IDs (GIDs) as contact information. When you first on-board, you can select to use your phone number or select to use a random ID. Whichever of these you select, this will determine your GID.

Share your GID with your friends and family so that you're able to stay in touch.

The goTenna App

When you first on-board, the goTenna App will request access to your contacts. If you 'd like to import your smartphones contacts, you can grant access here. Assuming you friends and family have selected to use verified phone numbers as their GIDs, then importing your contacts is a quick and easy way to build your goTenna Mesh phone book. 

If your friends and family have on-boarded with random IDs, however, it's easier to add this contact information, ad hoc. 

Managing Contacts

To create a contact, take the following steps:

1. Select ‘Contacts’ on the Side Menu.

2. Tap the Plus ‘+’ icon in the upper right corner.

3. A message will appear reminding you to add the country code in front of the number, click ‘Ok’.

4. Type the name under Contact.

5. Type the goTenna ID or phone number.

6. Tap ‘Save’ in the upper right corner.

To manage a contact (edit, delete, or block) take the following steps:

1. Select ‘Contacts’ on the Side Menu.

2. Select the contact you’d like to edit/delete.

3. From the contact, tap the Info ‘i’ icon in the upper right corner.

4. Select ‘Edit Contact’.

5. Make the necessary edits to your contact or tap ‘Delete’ to delete the goTenna ID entry.

6. Tap ‘Save’ in the upper right corner.

Updating your GID

To update from a verified phone number to a random ID:

1. Select 'Settings' from the Side Menu.

2. Select 'Profile'.

3. Tap ‘goTenna ID (verified)’.

4. Select ‘Use randomly generated goTenna ID’.

5. Your phone number (verified) will update to a random ID (generated).

To update from a random ID to a verified phone number:

1. Select 'Settings' from the Side Menu.

2. Select 'Profile'.

3. Tap ‘goTenna ID (generated)’.

4. Enter your phone number in the field provided.

5. You will be sent a verification code via SMS text. Enter the verification code in the field provided.

6. Tap ‘Done’.

7. Your random ID (generated) will update to your phone number (verified).
